I am 61 years old and had my first appointment with Dr. Robin Fleck in April, 2009. I read an article in The Daily Courier about her work which led me to my initial assessment for varicose veins. This confirmed I had a medical problem not just a cosmetic problem.
For at least five years I have been tripping, sometimes falling every week. My legs were so heavy I couldn't lift them up naturally when I walked. I thought my muscles had weakened as a result of statin drugs, spoke of this weakness repeatedly to my family physician to no avail. After I had the large saphenous veins ablated with laser treatment by Dr. Fleck, my legs began to feel lighter when I walked. I can honestly say I have not fallen once since we began the process. I have a normal gait, do not drag my right leg and feel 100% better after my laser treatments for varicose vein disease.
Dr. Fleck and her vascular ultrasound tech, Javier Calderon, have been very informative, answered my questions with each treatment and provided a calm atmosphere with both professional and competent treatment.
I highly recommend this procedure by Dr. Robin Fleck.

I am writing this for anyone who is considering having treatment done for varicose veins. I was having severe pain in my left heel for quite some time and swelling in my leg. After an ultrasound, Dr Fleck noticed some veins that needed to be treated. As soon as I finished the first treatment, the heel pain was completely gone. Now my leg looks and feels so much better. I was able to return to work the next day with no problems at all.

Before the procedure: Let me tell you some of my background. Predisposing factors were hereditary, occupation, pregnancies, obesity and extensive airline world travel. I've had a history of varicose veins for many years. My symptoms started with my first pregnancy, back in 1968. With each pregnancy, my varicose veins worsened. In the early 1970's, after my third child was born, I had right leg surgical vein stripping, groin to ankle. Heredity also plays an important role. My dad had open leg ulcers at the age of 60. (I'm 63 now). Over the past years, I've developed a darkened skin area just above my right ankle area. This area gradually became shiny and hard, which felt like cardboard to the touch. My legs felt heavy. I had ankle swelling and generalized lower leg fluid retention with prolonged standing. I am a registered nurse. My job has always required being on my feet a lot. Over the years, it was a "wait and see" attitude regarding my varicose vein problems. I became very concerned at the progression of the symptoms, especially with the potential for lower leg ulcer formation in the discolored, darkened skin areas. In the fall of 2008, I was given a referral by my primary care doc to see Dr. Robin Fleck.
During the procedure: I've had 6 EVLA treatments so far and the experience is all good! My medical background experience is "tuned in" to look, listen, observe and learn. During the procedure, the entire staff makes me feel very pampered! I am comfortable and warm and I feel safe. Music is available with earphones, but I prefer to "listen in" to the conversation during the procedure. I am very, very impressed.
After the procedure: The area is cleaned and secured with steri stips and/or a dressing over the puncture areas. My husband helps me put on my compression stocking(s). I feel relaxed with the effects of the mild sedative given prior to the procedure. Home instructions are given; walking is encouraged. I'm not finished with all the series of treatments yet, but the results so far are fantastic! The leg heaviness is gone. The darkened skin area is clearing up dramatically. The "cardboard feel of the skin" has been replaced with normal skin feel to the touch. I've lost 54 pounds since joining Weight Watchers last year. After we leave the office, my husband takes me out for a nice lunch! And yes, I sure feel good when I've been walking more!
In summary. . . Dr. Fleck. . . you deserve an A+!!!

I have had pain in my legs for five years and have seen a surgeon who worked on my veins about two years ago. My pain got worse after these procedures and my leg color went from light brown to dark brown. I began seeing Dr. Fleck in January 2009 and after the first laser my leg pain started to improve. I have had six laser treatments on my leg veins and several foam sclerotherapy treatments. It is now May 2009 and my leg pain is almost completely gone and the color of my legs is nearly normal. I can work an 8 hour day now without pain. I think Dr. Fleck is fantastic.
