Eczema
Eczema is a term for a number of chronic red, scaly, itchy skin conditions, usually due to a combination of skin allergy and irritant dermatitis. Cure is difficult because the offending substance is not identified or improper treatment is used.
Eczema can be classified according to location: eyelid eczema, hand eczema; or associated conditions: atopic eczema when it occurs in childhood associated with asthma or hayfever, or stasis eczema on the legs in association with varicose veins.
Treatment must involve avoidance of the offending allergen and gentle cleansing of the skin without the use of soaps or detergents, and prescription cortisone creams and moisturizers.
