Keloid
A keloid is a thickened, enlarged scar that projects above the skin surface. It can be itchy or painful and frequently recurs after surgical removal. Keloids can develop after minor trauma such as a pimple or insect bite and are more likely to form in persons of color, especially on the earlobes, back or chest. Surgical removal followed by injections of cortisone into the scar along with silicone dressing under pressure provide the most successful outcomes although keloids can recur many months after treatment.
